Chimera in a bag 2

During the research I came across a chimera city made from staples by Tofach Stoler. Although it is not put together digitally I believe it will influence my final design.

Another guy I came across was Yin Xiuzhen. He creates city scapes from clothes and other objects like suitcases and small pieces of plastic.

Yin Xiuzhen's work is abstract and clustered into one space and it reminded me of E-Boy's work which was used a year or two ago in Coca Colas add campaign

These designs use small parts and thats what it has in common with my final piece.

Digital Illustration

The brief we were given contained the following requirements:

Choose one of the three accompanying texts and create a digital drawing to illustrate it:
-       TIME magazine – grasshopper
-       HARPERS magazine – bulldozer
-       SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN – tomorrow’s car

Guidance:
In order to fulfil the assignment you may wish to place a photographic image on a layer and to trace it using the tools available. Should you choose to do so, you are required to leave the placed image in the final Illustrator file, but to hide the layer in question in the Layers palette. You may not trace an existing illustration unless the work is your own.

The graphic may be black & white or colour.
Backgrounds may be incorporated.

These are the two pieces I done for the first project. I brought a picture into Adobe Illustrator and traced it using the pen tool. As I went along added a layer for every shape so parts would overlap and eventually it would come together when colour was added.

Greek Mythology

In Greek mythology the khimaira (chimera) was a monstrous beast which ravaged the countryside of Lykia in Anatolia. The chimera is made up of 3 animals/ creatures, the body and head of a lion, a goat's head on its back and a serpentine tail and in some cases or picture it has a snakes head. It was a female monster killed by Bellerophon.

Chimera In A Bag

Here are some research sketches I done on Chimeras

This is what I found in my bag: USB, guitar slide, water bottle, guitar pick and headphones. I started off my sketching up ideas and ways the items could be used together.

Here is the chimera idea that I believed would work and that I liked the most.

The Chimera I made was too like the historical chimera, it needed to be modern and not animal like. Because most of my items were musical I decided to make an instrument from them.
Here is a guitar made from a cigar box and another made from an armadillo.
